Description

 Sociological Autobiography

In the beginning of the semester, we read C. Wright Mills’ essay on the importance of connecting the personal to the larger social and historical context. Use this essay as a chance to employ your “sociological imagination” and reflect on your own autobiography. What sociological factors have shaped your life so far? Your goal is to demonstrate your sociological understanding and learn more about course concepts, and about yourself, by thinking about how the two intertwine. The key to showing a sociological understanding is to connect your personal experiences, behaviors, and attitudes to the larger social structure. You may focus on an overview of your entire life or one or two particular moments that illustrates your points. For example, think about your cultural background, socialization, neighborhood, school, race, ethnicity, class, gender or sexual orientation etc. How have any of these factors or the intersection of any of them given you advantages or disadvantages throughout life? Be honest. You will not be graded on being “right” or “wrong”. Your goal is to demonstrate your willingness to reflect on your own experience and set a foundation for applying sociological understanding and course concepts Explanation & Answer: 3 pagesTags:
