Virginia Tech Healthy Food for All Americans Presentation

Description

First, come up with analysis topic (contact me to get your topic approved before you proceed).

Part I. Complete a PowerPoint presentation slideshow/lecture making a case for your issue and what actions should be taken (minimum of 30 slides) – it should address an issue you find important within the area of our course

Part II. Select the think-tank/policy organization (do some Googling) you would like to deliver your analysis to, and give a brief overview of the organization, and why you selected it and write an argument paper (roughly 500 words) explaining why your issue is of importance, and why the action you are recommending if the appropriate one.

Most important, since this is a policy analysis, your presentation must be constructed in a way that could be delivered to a group of people at a policy organization/think-tank that may or may not have taken any sociology courses.

Your task in this assignment is to “sell” your issue and explain why it is important and needs further attention from policymakers and those with the means to exercise political influence.

Your policy analysis and presentation will account for 20% of your final grade.

So, some questions you might have?

Q1. What on earth does this look like?

Q2. What is a think-tank?

A2. There are policy centers or organizations all around the country (tho many in DC) which have in-residence scholars, politicians, business influencers, that have come together to form these policy organizations around certain issues or beliefs and developed research objectives – they are referred to as think-tanks.

To be more precise, Wikipedia says, “A think tank or policy institute is a research institute which performs research and advocacy concerning topics such as social policy, political strategy, economics, military, technology, and culture.”
